Distinguishing this Planner from Others
This planner is grounded in a vision of schools that are structured as learning organizations where teams of teachers assume collective responsibility for students' and colleagues' success. The goal is the success of every student served by the team. The teams have consistent and regular time within the workday to engage in a continuous cycle of curriculum-anchored learning and development grounded in the use of high-quality instructional materials with classroom-based support relevant to their needs. When high-quality instructional materials are unavailable, teachers are given support essential to developing skills and expertise in selecting such materials for their classrooms. This vision aligns specifically with the new ESSA definition that calls for professional development that is classroom-focused, data-driven, intensive, and job-embedded.
About
As stated, there are many planners and resources available to support SEA implementation of ESSA. Several practical characteristics, however, distinguish this planner from others:
- This planner focuses predominantly on the implementation of Title IIA.
- This planner focuses specifically on how to leverage Title IIA to advance an agenda that prioritizes selection and implementation of high-quality instructional materials as well as curriculum-anchored professional learning.
- This planner encourages users to study the overviews of each stage and choose only those stages that align to a need or specific priority.
- Many planners are directed predominantly for SEA implementation; more than half of this planner is focused on tools the SEA provides to the LEA in support of local implementation.
